REPRESENTATIVE

ASSIGNMENTS

CLIENT:

President/CEO,
Energy Service Company
THE NEED:

The client had a strong career history of being a great operations executive who had successfully supported his leadership team in strategy implementation through operational excellence. He took on a CEO/President role at a different company which required him to stabilize and reposition them for growth in a difficult market. Relying on his operating capabilities he quickly got the company under control and into the position to move forward. Not having owned strategy in his former roles, the client was struggling with his confidence to take the definitive lead as President and CEO.

RESULT:

John worked with the client to reflect and build on his past successes and strengths and to come to terms with his view of himself in his new role. They worked to develop a business plan which allowed him to work through options facing the company, and engage his team in a direct and confident manner.

The client moved from being a reluctant leader to seeing himself as a capable visionary with  the required experience to position the company for growth.

CLIENT:
Business Development Manager, Energy Innovations Company

THE NEED:

The millennial client had built an international career in sustainable energy, with a 10+ year track record of successful business development in North America and Europe. A year into the role, she finds herself immersed in the day-to-day transactional work instead of developing and driving strategy with an empowered team. Ambitious and impatient, she came to coaching wanting to make a swift and definite transition from individual contributor mindset to influential leader.

RESULT:

Gudrun worked with the client to develop a clear understanding of what leadership meant for her, and the shifts she needed to fully embrace the leadership role.

Results from the bespoke 360 feedback collected brought key insights around how the client was perceived by others. The client incorporated the feedback at every stage of the personal development agenda, which served as a powerful motivator for change. We looked at the client’s motivation, her needs and preferences relative to leading and being led, and discussed and experimented with different leadership styles. Once the client had identified the ingredients of her personal leadership style, the coaching focus shifted to practice in the workplace. Through live-action coaching, the client gained additional feedback and continued with targeted development actions.

This 9-months tailor-made coaching engagement allowed the client to move from “specialist with leadership ambition” to “authentic leader with a personal growth agenda”. Collecting regular feedback from her team, peers and from her manager is now a standard practice for her to build leadership capability.

CLIENT:
Senior HR Executive,
Engineering & Technical Services
THE NEED:

The client had a long and very successful career across multiple industries as a senior human resources leader and executive search consultant. In his mid 60's, he is in the twilight of his chosen career path and seeking guidance as he pondered retirement and the next chapter. With his life largely centered around his work identity, the prospect of retirement created increased agitation and concern about how to spend his days and discern life's purpose.

RESULT:

Jason worked with the client to reframe potential opportunities ahead, helping develop a "pro-tirement" strategy that would be both engaging and rewarding. An eager learner and sports enthusiast with a great sense of humor, the client shifted from asking, "How will I spend my days?" to "Now I have the chance to pursue my real passions."

Through a series of self-discovery exercises, his self awareness and excitement about future possibilities grew. During the course of our work together, the client went from a very narrow definition of volunteer work within the talent management space, to tapping into new talents -- enrolling in stand-up comedy courses and hitting the road in a tour bus that followed his favorite minor league baseball team across country. Our work led to reigniting connections with important family members and gaining renewed excitement that leveraged both professional and personal passions.

CLIENT:
Leadership Team Marketing & Sales,
Biotechnology
THE NEED:

As CEO of a pan-European biotech company, the client had formed a new leadership team over the course of a year, handpicked from across industry. Each team member brought personal ambition and the specific capabilities and experience required for the business.

After the team formed, some misalignment became evident and began to pose serious risk to the company’s growth objectives. The CEO sought to enable a much higher team performance that could be sustained over time.

RESULT:

Gudrun conducted individual interviews with the CEO and the team members and from those, designed a Leadership Team Effectiveness workshop.

Working with the CEO to develop a strong and compelling leadership story, helped to align the team and lay a strong foundation for creating a shared vision of the company culture. In a short time, the team began developing together a shared approach to problem solving, conflict resolution, and overall leadership.

The CEO saw an immediate positive impact in team meetings as well as improvements in one to one relationships among team members. As the team “acted as one”, others in the organization also benefited from the improved effectiveness.

RESULT:

During a six-month engagement, Jason worked with the client to help identify priorities and create structure and boundaries around an increasingly unmanageable workload and unsustainable work/life balance. 360 feedback helped clarify the way the client was being perceived versus his intentions.

New insights into how his behavior impacted morale led to programs to empower departmental leaders and new guidelines around workflow and staff interaction. Clarity was created around clinic-focussed responsibilities and face-of-the-industry roles, which led to clearer communication throughout the organization.

The clinic expansion continues at a record pace with the client receiving on-going feedback about how to maintain momentum from enthusiastic and supportive partners, medical providers, staff, and patients.
